I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem: I have had piezo mechanisms just stop working in lighters. Since most lighters share the same exact piezo mechanism, basically a black rectangular tube typically with a brass colored grounding plate on the bottom like this:
I'd think these would last forever but I've had them go bad within a year before, which is a bit concerning because many piezo lighters seem to share this same part. However, that also means they are easy to come by and replace if it does go bad. It seems to have always been my experience that the longer I own a piezo ignition lighter, the less chance it'll fire up on the first click. I had the piezo ignitor in my blazer zippo z-plus insert go completely bad and I was able to replace it with a piezo ignitor from one of those long fireplace lighters which was out of gas. YMMV.
Xikar, Vector, Blazer, Colibri (does yours still work?), etc...
